Artist of the Week: Marilyn Greenwood

In the weeks leading up to the 4th Street Festival of Arts and Crafts, BEAD will feature a few artists whose work you’ll find at this year’s festival, August 30 and 31st on 4th and Grant Streets. Nature’s palette provides the paint for Marilyn’s jewelry designs. Each unique piece is handmade in a very personal response to these fossils and gemstones.  Marilyn is  inspired by the the interplay of energies created by combinations of Diamonds, Opals, Druses, and unusual gemstones, as well as the familiar, such as Lapis, Amethyst, and Tourmalines. Her bond with the earth’s treasures began when sh merged geology with East Asian religious studies at Indiana University. Further studies, including intensive coursework in jewelry at Penland Art School, have increased my technical knowledge of silver and goldsmithing Her portfolio includes: one-of-a-kind and custom pieces; popular styles in limited editions; custom designed earrings; bracelets; pendants; and rings. Check out page 9 of Homes and Lifestyles magazine to see a feature on Marilyn’s jewelry. To see other Festival artists, check out the artist slide show here.
