Bloomington, Indiana – See where astronomy and art intersect at the WonderLab Museum of Science, Health and Technology in Bloomington during First Friday Evening Science of Art: Cosmic Connection on October 3! Meet and watch photographer Jill Cooley, a graduate student in the IU School of Fine Arts, as she demonstrates how she uses false color and other imaging techniques to create beautiful images of the universe as visual art. Also, enjoy a multimedia performance of original musical compositions with astronomical images by Dr. Gabriel Lubell, adjunct lecturer in the IU Jacobs School of Music. Then step outside as the nearly full moon rises to closely observe its features through a telescope with amateur astronomer Mark Flanigan. Related hands-on activities for visitors include using oil pastels to make drawings inspired by NASA’s images of planetary geology and creating sun-catchers that look like planets. These activities are recommended for all ages and are included with museum admission.

Half-price general museum admission ($3.50) will be in effect on First Friday Evening from 5:00 pm until the museum closes at 8:30 pm. Seating for the musical performance, which takes place from 6:00 pm – 6:30 pm, will be on a first-come, first-served basis. A small plate meal, freshly prepared by Bloomingfoods, will be available to buy in the WonderLab café. Free parking spaces are available in the 4th Street Parking Garage after 5:00 pm on weekends.

First Friday Evening Science of Art: Cosmic Connection is sponsored by F. Rudolf Turner with additional grant support from Ivy Tech Community College-Bloomington, the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, the Indiana Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts. WonderLab is an award-winning science museum located at 308 West Fourth Street on the B-Line Trail in the heart of the downtown Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD).
