Artists of the Week: Seventh Annual Percussive Dance Extravaganza

A remarkable evening of exceptional traditional music and rhythmic footwork – including flatfooting and clogging, tap, a longsword dance, French Canadian stepdance, and English clogging. Conceived by musician, singer, dancer, and choreographer Tamara Loewenthal, the Extravaganza is an expression of the vital Old-Time dance and music scene in Bloomington and a celebration of the joy of making beautiful – and powerful – rhythms with our feet.

Featuring: Dancers – led by Tamara Loewenthal, the company features Annie Bartlett Stowers, Suzannah Edgar, Mary Beth Roska, Cliff Emery, Allana Radecki, Katie Zukof, and others – including students from Loewenthal’s percussive dance classes; Extravaganza Old Time Band – Brad Leftwich and Jamie Gans (fiddles), multi-instrumentalist Sam Bartlett (banjo, mandolin), Robert Widlowski (bass); with special guest John Schwab (guitar; author of Old-Time Backup Guitar: Learn from the Masters); Additional musicians – Eric Schedler (piano, accordion), Zach Moon (Irish flute, whistle), and Marielle Abell (vocals) and Hudsucker Posse members – Paula Chambers and Clara Kallner.
