Whiz kidsThe Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Virtuosi and Chamber Orchestra are a unique collection of violinists, violists, and cellists between the ages of 10 and 18 who perform as a chamber orchestra, violin ensemble, string sextet, and soloists.

The performers are gifted students who study at the String Academy at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Some live in Bloomington and others commute as many as 300 miles. Their intense musical curriculum includes weekly private lessons, chamber music, theory, master classes, and Virtuosi rehearsals. The Virtuosi have performed throughout the world and have been enthusiastically embraced in Argentina, Brazil, Denmark, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and Japan. The Virtuosi have also performed throughout the US, including a Carnegie Hall performance this past March. National Public Radio programs From the Top and Prairie Home Companion have featured The Virtuosi on their nationwide broadcasts. In 2006, Public Television released the Emmy-nominated documentary Circling Around–The Violin Virtuosi, which has been widely aired.

The Virtuosi will be featured soloists this Saturday, November 16th in Whiz Kids, the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra’s third concert of its 44th Season.
