Call for Artists for Déjà vu Art and Fine Craft Show

On Saturday, November 16, 2013, Déjà Vu Art and Fine Craft Show will be held at The Commons, a civic space in downtown Columbus, Indiana. Having opened just two years ago, this spectacular facility is a great place to showcase your work. Although this call for entries is being sent to many artists and art organizations, no more than 60 applicants will be accepted. In order to present a show of the highest quality, everyone must submit digital photos and an application in order to be juried.

 The following is information that will help you decide whether you are interested and qualified to take part.

  • Since the show is held in celebration of America Recycles Day, you must use scrap materials or repurpose, reuse and/or recycle solid waste materials, at least in part, to create your work. A few applicants who create their work from natural or sustainable materials will be accepted, too.
  • Your exhibit space will be approximately 10’ x 10’. We will provide two chairs, and we have some tables, which will be assigned to the first twenty or so artists who are accepted. If you’d like one, please indicate this on your application. Otherwise, you must bring your own tables and anything else needed to properly display your work.
  • The show hours are 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., EST. You may set up starting at 8:00 a.m., and you must have everything removed by 5:30 p.m.
  • We’re happy to announce the return of the Best of Show Award. A ribbon and a check for $100 will be presented to the artist whose exhibit is judged best according to the following criteria: creativity, excellent use of scrap or reuse of waste materials, craftsmanship, and professional presentation of artwork.
  • In addition to the Best of Show Award, we’ve begun soliciting friends who’ve attended past shows to sign up for Art Patron Purchase Awards. These are pledges to purchase artwork at the show, and our goal is to obtain $1,000 or more in awards. Those who agree to be Art Patrons will attend the show and spend at least $25 each. An Art Patron who makes a larger pledge may choose to spend all the money on one item, or he or she may buy several, smaller pieces. When an Art Patron purchases your work, you’ll also receive a small ribbon designating that you received a Purchase Award.
  • We’re working with Hotel Indigo, which is located a short distance from The Commons, to reserve rooms for our artists. If you’re interested, the rooms will be available at a special rate. However, the number reserved for Déjà Vu participants is limited, and the first ten or so accepted artists who request them would receive the discount.
  • Along with your application, please send at least three photos of your work. We’ll accept slides, digital photos on a CD, or you may send them online to
  • The application deadline is Tuesday, June 18, 2013. You’ll be notified of your status by July 2, and you must pay the booth rental fee of $75 by July 16. There will be no refunds after August 31, 2013.
  • The entire Commons has been rented for this event. This includes the downstairs lobby and the larger, multi-purpose area upstairs. There are escalators and two elevators that service the second floor, so getting to your booth should be fairly easy.
  • The sponsors, who include the Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District, Columbus Area Arts Council, Columbus Area Visitors Center, Hotel Indigo, Papa’s Deli/Papa’s Grill, Pentzer Printing, and Puccini’s, take no responsibility for your personal liability or loss or damage to your work. For your personal protection, we recommend purchasing liability insurance that will cover you while exhibiting at the show.
