New This Week from BEAD

WFHB’s Fall Fund Drive
Bloomington Community Radio WFHB is holding its ten-day Fall Fund Drive starting today.  The theme this drive is social justice, with the slogan “Activate,” celebrating all the ways WFHB helps community engagement.  All pledgers will receive a special gift: a free copy of “Lotus Live: Vol. II”, a new compilation CD of tracks selected from the station’s vast archive of Lotus Festival performers recorded live in the WFHB studios.  Pledge online at www.wfhb.org or call the station at 323-1200.

Fund Drive Events include:
9/29  Concert: Two Man Gentleman Band @ The Bishop Bar  8pm
10/2  “Brown County Day” live concerts @ Muddy Boots Café and The Pine Room  11am-9pm
10/3  Concert: Triptides, Thee Tsunamis @ Russian Recording  9pm
10/6  Firehouse Follies live variety show @ Brown County Inn  7pm

Angel Project
Local artist Joe LaMantia invites the public to join him for the “Angel Project,” a large metal sculpture constructed from old license plates and other signage. If you have any items to contribute or would just like to stop by and say hello, Joe will be working from 9-5 through October 12th in front of WFHB.

Fall Open House at Silas Andrews
This funky little French/vintage/home decor boutique at 405 South Walnut is having a Fall open house from.11-5 Friday and Saturday.  New Halloween decor:  french pumpkins, finger ink pens and fall wreaths await.  812-333-7790.

Taking the World By Storm!

Join Stone Belt on Friday, September 28 (today!) for the latest exhibition of original works of art by individuals with disabilities.  All new works are based on the theme of the world’s continents and cultures.  The reception will feature a meet-and-greet with the artists, as well as a delicious catered reception.
Ari Weinzweig Book Signing
On Saturday, September 29th, Bloomington Independent Restaurant Association (BIRA) is proud to host author, co-owner and founder of Zingerman’s Deli, Ari Weinzweig, for a brief talk and book signing.  The event will be held at FARMbloomington beginning at 3:00 pm and is open to the public. Donations will be accepted.

Trained Eye Arts Market
Every Saturday through October, visit the Trained Eye Arts Market between 10am and 2pm. This Saturday, music from Michael Stone from Smooth Jazz Trio. Musicians are welcome to perform and local artists and craftspeople are also welcome to sell their work. It’s currently free and the Market doesn’t take a commission- donations are welcome though! First Friday Evening Science of Art: Woodturning
Watch and talk with artist Dan Dutra as he demonstrates using a lathe to make beautiful handcrafted spinning tops during First Friday Evening Science of Art: Woodturning on Friday, October 5, from 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm at the WonderLab Museum.

The Comedy Attic’s 4th Anniversary Weekend
Greg Behrendt, Author of “He’s Just Not That Into You” will be stepping in for Tim Meadows for The Comedy Attic’s 4th Anniversary celebration this upcoming weekend.

On the first Friday in October from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Patricia’s Wellness Arts Café & Quilter’s Comfort Teas will celebrate its 1st Anniversary in its location at the Western Entrance of Arts Row in BEAD.

Symphonic Spooktacular
On October 27th, join maniacal Maestro Charles Latshaw and the bloodthirsty Bloomington Symphony Orchestra in a frightfully delightful evening for the whole family.

Local First Indiana Mixer
Local First Mixer at the Comedy Attic at 7pm on October 11th. After the show, see the Amazing Glen Wool with an opening act by Tom Brady. Local First Mixer attendees get in free.

Microcosmic drawings and monoprints by Martha Kaplan celebrates By Hand Gallery’s Grand Re-opening on Friday, October 5th! The evening reception will début  the remodel with music, h’ors d’ourves and raffle give-aways.
