“The Israel Series by Perry Olds”

On Friday, January 27th, beginning at 6:00pm, The Venue will host a reception for local award winning artist and photographer, Perry Olds, who has incorporated his long-held fascination with grids, into his current show.

While on vacation in Israel, and during his many walks, Perry noticed interesting manhole covers worthy of photographing. The textures were most intriguing, and inspired Perry to create rubbings. Finding an art store in Tel Aviv, with only a modest stock of supplies, Perry made his purchases, and began creating what is now a collection of over thirty rubbings.

The show, ManHole Cover Rubbings, is a representation of the artist’s favorite images. The original rubbings range in size from approximately 10 inches (a selected section of a manhole cover), to 40 X 27 inches.  These graphically pleasing images have been printed in greeting card format, as well.

Perry grew up in Detroit, was educated as an engineer, holding a BSME from University of Michigan and an MSME from Michigan Technological University.  He retired from Rolls Royce in 2011.   Married to Irene (Joslin) Olds, celebrated artist, cartoonist and illustrator… they delight in their increasing, blended family. They currently welcomed their sixth grandchild.

The Venue will provide refreshments, and our complete collection of Fine Art and Gifts will also be on display for viewing and purchase. Parking is available in the lot on the corner of 4th and Grant.
