“The Art of the Israeli Man Hole Cover” by Perry Olds.

On Friday, January 20th, at 6:00 pm,  The Venue Fine Art & Gifts will host the opening of a truly unique exhibit, Man Hole Cover Rubbings by Perry Olds.

Having retired from his career as a master mechanical engineer with Rolls Royce, local award-wining photographer and artist, Perry Olds, had the opportunity to spend seven weeks in Israel, along with his wife, local artist Irene (Joslin) Olds.

Ever the engineer, on his many exploratory walks Perry, as only he would, noticed the artistic merit of the manhole covers.  He initially intended to photograph the covers, but quickly realized that for him, much of their appeal lay in their texture.  After locating some scarce art supplies, Perry opted to create rubbings.

The fruits of his labor are on display in our exhibit, a collection of framed and matted rubbings that vary in design, size, and color. While their uniqueness is obvious, their beauty, symmetry, and artistic merit make them a wonderful surprise. They are reasonably priced so that yes, even you can be the proud owner of an original rubbing of an Israeli Man Hole Cover.

Perry will be present and The Venue will provide refreshments for this open.  Our complete collection of Fine Art and Gifts will also be on display for viewing and purchase. Parking is available in the lot on the corner of 4th and Grant.  This exhibit will run until February 2nd.

“Israeli Man Hole Covers, a Demonstration and Conversation with Artist Perry Olds”

On Tuesday, January 24th, at 5:30pm The Venue will host a demonstration and conversation with local artist Perry Olds, explaining the how and why of his creation of original rubbings of the Man Hole covers of Israel.  This presentation will be interactive, informative, and fun.

Refreshments will be provided and our complete collection of Fine Art and Gifts will also be on display for viewing and purchase. Parking is available in the lot on the corner of 4th and Grant.
